A Typical Day
The teachers at Fredericksburg
Cooperative Preschool develop a monthly
curriculum that integrates seasonal themes,
holidays, colors, shapes, numbers, and
letters. A typical day includes the following
activities:
- 9:00-9:15 Parent-helper and child-helper
arrive and complete
special tasks.
- 9:15-9:35 Hello time and manipulative
play. All other children
arrive. Parents may linger
and do puzzles and board
games with their child.
- 9:35-9:55 Circle time. The teacher
leads the children in sharing,
songs, and finger plays.
- 9:55-10:45 Free play. The children
choose their activities from
various "centers." These
include free-art table,
science area, dress-up area,
blocks, sand/water table,
reading corner, art easel,
puppet theater, and home
making. Also, a craft project
is presented each day that
is completed solely by the
children.
- 10:45-11:00 Snack. The special helper
provides a wholesome snack.
- 11:00-11:15 Bathroom.
- 11:15-11:45 Story time/special activity/
classroom visitor/music.*
- 11:45-12:15 Outdoor play.
* The school has hired a music teacher
who conducts two half-hour programs for
each class every month.
